As
a hoof trimmer, instructor, and hoof care consultant, I see
cows endure greater stress as their milk production increases,
they are confined on concrete, and housed in unsatisfactory

facilities. This requires more frequent trimming, sometimes
at less than ideal times for the cow. As a result, cows need
to be restrained safely and comfortably for maintenance trims
and lameness treatment during any stage of lactation.
I began designing
in 1989. I stand by my original promise to only offer practical
and safe equipment that I use in my hoof trimming business
on a daily basis. COMFORT CHUTES are
equipped with our original ACCU-TRIM
leg restraint.
Experts throughout
the world agree, the key to performing quality trimming
is the leg position. The ACCU-TRIM
leg restraint provides the best possible hoof position to
effectively and efficiently perform functional and therapeutic
trimming. In addition, COMFORT CHUTES
are gentle on the cow, yet hold her securely. I have safely
trimmed cows at all stages of lactation and gestation with
these chutes, even cows close to calving and those pushing
over 70 kg per day.
In addition, I introduced the
to reduce the physical labor needed to trim cows. Trimming
in an ergonomically correct position allows me to continue
working late into my career and trim more cows in a day.
By having the cow in an upright position and elevated to
my working level, I can trim more accurately and save time.
I will continue to maintain high safety standards by offering
sturdy, quality equipment that provides years of lasting
performance. And, I welcome the opportunity to work with
you on an individual basis to access your needs and together
help you achieve success.

Karl Burgi, program director and primary instructor, has been active in the hoof health industry on an international basis for several years. He provides a hoof care service to several farms, both large and small, in south-central Wisconsin. Karl is a graduate of the Hoof Care Course, IPC Dairy Training Center in Friesland, The Netherlands.
Since 1989, he has researched and designed upright, hoof trimming chutes to provide a practical and efficient means of restraining cattle. He travels throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia to talk about hoof health and lameness prevention.
"The more I learn, the more satisfying my work becomes. It is rewarding to see healthier cows and lower levels of lameness. As caretakers of dairy cattle, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to improve hoof health, maintain productivity, and keep cows in the herd as long as possible."
